Tuesday Poem: "Memory Steps"



I
I held
I held your
I held your face
I held your face in my
I held your face in my hands.

This
This was
This was the
This was the memory
This was the memory you will
This was the memory you will never forget.

POET'S NOTE: Something a wee bit different this week. I think there is a name for this form of poetry, but more erudite readers than I will tell you what it is. Just playing with words is what I call it. Never lose your sense of play. If you do, you'll become an "adult" and we wouldn't wish that on anybody.

    I loved the form - especially as I haven't seen it before and it worked so well with the content.

  2. The most famous poem that I can think a little like this is 'This is the house that Jack built' which builds from the first line out, providing more and more detail. But this one starts with a fragment.

    Very compelling, perhaps more so because of the first word in both stanzas being different. I would like to call it a 'stutter poem', but that isn't a very complimentary name.

  3. "Stutter poem" is fine with me, Penelope. Let us say it celebrates and supports stutterers worldwide. Like poetry's answer to "The King's Speech". Shall I be the Colin Firth of poetry or the Geoffrey Rush? Both are fine, fine gentlemen and fine actors.

  4. Nice! I once wrote a poem that had one word on each line, accumulating from one to ten all the way, and only after discovered that 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10 makes a perfect 55-word story. Love these kinds of challenges -- and great to see something a wee bit different here.
