Tuesday Poem: "Waiting in the Wings"

Consider the roles we all play,
the lover, the husband, the wife,
the mother, the father, the child,
the worker, the boss,
the dumb blonde, the virile man, the hunter, the hunted
and all the roles others play for us.

What if we stopped playing?
Just left the script to one side and improvised.
Would we forget who we were,
our identity stranded like a ship on a reef?
Suddenly a life impromptu,
motivations put to the fire
and a passion infusing us
driving us to reach for
the unreachable
becoming the achievable.

What glory might await
when we heard the voice of the director
proclaiming us as naturals.
